Warayaki Cooking Method

Before moving to Tokyo in 2017, I came here 3~4 times a year to visit friends. The only two restaurants I always wanted to go were Ichiran Ramen and Warayakiya (Izakaya). Last week I went to Warayakiya again. It was delicious as always.


Warayaki is a cooking method which you put a handful of dried rice straws on burning charcoal and the smoke it creates will flavor whatever is on the grill. This method is actually from another region in Japan but you can try it in Tokyo. My recommendation is Bonito fish, which is also the recommendation from everyone else.


It will cost you about 3000~5000yen for dinner. (There is a table charge for each person)
